On this first episode of the Best Picture Marathon of the Oscars Death Race Podcast, I am joined by my college friend Prim to talk about the two silent films to win Best Picture - 1929's "Wings" (the first ever BP winner) and 2011's "The Artist," an homage to the silent film era. We talk about film scores, the history of early Hollywood, and why these films are more similar to Top Gun Maverick than you may expect.
